1. To straighten hair, begin by shampooing, conditioning and towel-drying hair.

2. Apply a heat protectant product to your hair, paying special attention to the ends.

3. Place a quarter-size dollop of straightening balm in your palm. Rub your palms together to distribute the product over your hands, then massage it evenly through hair.

4. Comb through your hair with your fingers while gently blow-drying it on a low setting. This removes excess water.

5. Pull your hair into three sections, two at the sides and one at the back. Clip the two sides up.

6. Select a small portion of the hair from the unclipped section to straighten.

7. Using a thick, round brush and beginning at the roots, gently pull the brush through the hair to the ends while blow-drying it. Pull the hair away from your head, stretching and straightening it as you go.

8. First pull the brush through the underside of your hair so that you expose it directly to the heat of the dryer. Once that area is mostly dry, switch to the top of the hair.

9. Keep the tension consistent and evenly distribute heat over the section of hair you're working on. This ensures uniform hair texture and prevents overdrying of certain areas.

10. Once that portion of hair is straightened, continue selecting and blow-drying small portions until that section is dry and straight.

11. Repeat the process on the two other sections to straighten your entire head of hair.

Start from the bottom and work your way to the top in sections

I am of mixed race and my hair gets so frizzy so i straighten it a lot. Make sure you have a good shampoo and conditioner that gives a good shine.Once the conditioner is on, leave on for 3-5 mins and rinse with cold water for a good shine. I put a smidge of hair serum on while its wet so its helps glide the tongs through.Try to blow dry your hair straight but if its not acheivable, make sure the hair is bone dry (if the slightest bit wet you could burn the hair and get split ends)

Once the hair is dry, use your straightners and section each part and go over with the tongs (I've got GHD's so it doesn't take long to do) if you dont, go over a few times til the hair is straight. Use a bit of mist while straightening so you get a sheen once finished.

Hope this helps and Good Luck at school

xXx

If you don't want to put harsh chemicals in it (like I did), you can press it with a hot comb or flat iron. Gel works too but it's ugly and messy as heck. Try the beauty supply store and see what they have available. But if you want a relaxer which is permanent until your roots grow out (4-8 weeks later), get it done by a pro for best results!

Well, I can tell you that a big curling iron works great on white people's hair. I don't know why it wouldn't work on yours. You just take the curling iron through sections of your hair, but you pull it down straight, you don't curl it. They also make flat irons, or something like that. Check out the section at a local store that has curling irons and stuff. My hair is also very thick, but it works for me.

I am mixed so my hair is naturally curly. I use the maxiglide. It works really well for me. But just use any straightener you have for now. There is also this foamy stuff called Motions at home. It is Foamy wrapping lotion.

My best advice is to talk to a professional. But if you are unable to, be sure that you and your mom follow the directions very carefully.
