I tried to stop caffeine...but the headaches were horrible. I mean horrible. So I allow myself 1 coffee in the a.m. and a coke in the afternoon. Which is alot less from my pre pregnancy intake of 3 cups of coffee in the a.m. and diet cokes all day long and tea in the evenings.
As for sleepiness...be sure you are drinking plenty of water. There is no such thing as late nights if you've gotta work the next day. Get as much rest as you can. And you can try nibbling on snacks such as carrots or celery with peanut butter or grapes. Anything low-calorie and you find makes you feel good.
I'm still waiting for that energy burst they say you get in the second trimester. Yawwwwwwwwn.

I disagree with the posters on the caffeine issue. Would you give your baby a cup of coffee or a coke? I hope not! I am 6 weeks along myself now and am very fatigued, too, so I understand how you feel, I really do. But I am committed to staying caffeine-free! Although I have always been a night owl, I go to bed now at 10 pm and get up again at 8 am every day for weeks to combat the exhaustion. It helps somewhat. ( I used to go to bed at 12:30)

My pregnancy book said the first trimester your body is creating the placenta, the baby's life support system for the entire pregnancy. It is exhausting, my book says, and is equivalent to climbing mountains (even if you never leave your desk at work). So the answer is REST, REST, REST and then sleep some more!

It is understandable to be exhausted but good nutrition and sleep is the answer, not chemicals.

Good night and good luck!

Try and take cat naps at break or at lunch if you need to. They will help. Also while in the early stages you may need to go to bed way early to help you. I drink cokes all the time, I have no more then like 2 a day and I haven't had any trouble. You can have caffeine just make sure that you don't go overboard with it. Congrats and Good Luck.

I understand. I went to my car and napped for my 15 minute breaks...helped a little. Go to the bathroom stall and catch a minute or 2 of ZZZ's. :-) Just don't fall off the toilet...or in. It won't be much longer before that sleeping pill feeling is gone.

Don't be fooled by people telling you that you are not allowed caffeine... and talk to your doctor.. I was having this same issue in my early pregnant... And my doctor assured me that I could have 1 or 2 eight oz. cups of coffee in the morning without it affecting me or the baby. She told me the exact mg. that I should not exceed, but I don't remember exactly what it is. Just ask your doctor about it.
