RIP Steve. In reply to an answer above he wasn't 'teasing' the Stingray he was merely swimming over it and obviously it felt threatened. He had been quoted saying that he would have been sad if didn't die on camera and he didnt suffer which is a blessing.
His personality introduced alot of people to the world of 'Wild' animals. He had the knack of educating people without actually letting on what he was doing. His television work is what most people will remember him by but he was a fantastic consvervationist and loved what he did.
It is credit to the man how his death has affected so many people worldwide, how many other tv shows do you know that pull in over 500 million viewers?
'Croc's Rule' - Enjoy the great bbq in the sky Steve.

A tragic waste, the man inspired so many to look at animals in a different way. He used the media to promote his passion. My kids loved him, love him or hate him, he will be remembered as the mad aussie, who thought all creatures were worth saving and conserving. The money he made from his tv and film wsn't spent on bling, he spent it on acquiring land, in which to create natural wildlife reserves. At 44 Steve Irwin did more than many of us could achieve in a lifetime. His legacy will go on, through his family, Terri, Bindi Sue and Bob, His dad and all his mates at AustraliaZoo! The True Crocodile Dundee! Iwish I could have known him personally, he inspired millions!!!!

You know, just less then 5 minutes ago, someone wanted to have people write their feelings and give tribute to him and the Yahoo staffers removed the question. I think that is crap.....
Anyway, you are right. He was a great man. He lived his life the way he wanted and died doing what he loved. He was a great man who wanted to show people how to love and respect the crocodiles as well as other creatures. To know he died so young and by an unfortunate freak accident is just unbelievable. May God bless him, his wife, Terri and his kids, Bindi Sue and Bob.

He was wonderful. My sister went to Australia to live for a year and she visited Australia Zoo and saw one of his demonstrations with the animals and then he fetched on Bindi, his daughter, after it. She said he was fantastic and she could see how much he loved his daughter and how proud he was. At least he was doing what he loved! R.I.P Crocodile Hunter.

Yes, totally an awesome zoologist and a true naturalist. He will be missed. The Australian people or government should dedicate or name a conservation park after him.
R.I.P Irwin, you will be missed.

Agreed. People who expose themselves to thrills like he did always amaze me.
It's too bad, huh?
I always thought he was more likely to loose an arm or some toes to a hungry crocodile...
RIP Croc Hunter.

I doubt you could meet a happier man, whose energy and love for what he did couldn't fail to inspire.
Very sadly missed, my heart goes out to his family and friends, to whom his gap will never be filled.
