you definately lose weight while breast feeding.nothing wrong with carrying on a few months, but you say you have to stop. so as an incentive think of those reasons which are making you stop, and what you will be getting out of that. also it will give your child a chance to learn some independance, and also if the dad is around a chance for him to be involved with the child, by allowing hime to feed it at times.

I lost all my baby weight (65 lbs) while breastfeeding, within the first 3 months after she was born. I stopped when my daughter was 13 months and found I had much more energy and decreased appetite but didn't notice any additional weight loss.

You can private message me if you would like someone to help you research things and see if there is a way you can keep nursing. In many cases there are alternatives so that the mother can continue to nurse. If you need to take medications or something, I can check Medications & Mother's Milk for you and let you know about safety or alternatives. (Many doc's don't check the right reference for this but instead go by the PDR which says nothing is safe!)

I saw in your other thread that you need a mammogram.

Mammograms are more difficult to read if the mother is breastfeeding, but can still be useful. Evaluation of a lump that requires more than history and physical examination can be done by other means besides a mammogram (for example, ultrasound, needle biopsy). Discuss the options with your doctor. Let him/her know breastfeeding is important to you. Maybe you can have an ultrasound or a needle biopsy done instead of weaning.

That's what happening to me now. I've tailed off from regular breastfeeding preparatory to stopping and the weight is dropping off easier. I think it's because it's easier for me to really diet now as my apetite has dropped. While I was breastfeeding, I was eating even more than while pregnant - i just couldn't stop myself!!
But I do admit I'm exercising a bit more regularly now plus trying out acupressure to prevent postnatal obesity.

You normally lose weight while you are feeding not when you stop, but dont give up hope, why not join a keep fit class that has a creche then it will help you lose weight, get fit and encourage your child to play with other children and share. Give it a try you might enjoy it.

No, in fact it's easier to loose weight when you are breastfeeding as your body burns additional calories while producing breast milk. One incentive, you get your boobs back all to yourself and can wear cute (non-nursing) bras again....now there is incentive! ; )

You lose the weight while breastfeeding b/c it burns more calories. Once you stop, the weight don't come off as easily.

No sorry! I have breastfed 3 children. The only thing that shifts the weight is a bit of exercise (and a few less Jaffa cakes!)

Sorry, but I lost all of my weight by diet and exercise. Stopping breast feeding did very little if anything.
