You do not need to dig to get past this task. You just have to search the three hidden chambers in the tunnels. To get to the hidden chambers follow these directions:

Chamber #1 turn right at the first crossroad and go to the dead end. You will see a rock on the wall that is clickable. That will let you into the hidden chamber.

To get to the second hidden chamber enter the tunnels and go straight until you cannot go any farther. There you will again see a rock on the wall. Click that and it will let you into the second chamber.

Chamber #3 enter the tunnels and go straight until you cannot go straight anymore. Go to the left and continue until you cannot go anymore. Turn right and you should see another rock on the wall that you can click. That will let you into the third hidden chamber.

The watch is not underground - it is just lying on the floor of one of the chambers.
