I wrote asking about connecting a laptop to cable, external modem ( Charter )but need to know if there is another way of going instead of wireless. I don't really want to go wireless...getting over my head ...There is no available opening for another puter. we have no homephone to go that route either...

You don't have to go wireless, but you DO need a router - one with enough ports to connect all your computers. A wired router is fine as long as all the computers you want to connect have ethernet ports.

Get a cheap ethernet switch from Wal*Mart. Cable modem into switch, switch to each PC that needs to share the connection.

crossed ethernet cable (cat5) will connect two pcs together and use internet sharing on them

its a ethernet connection and yes you have one on your laptop they all do
