you can still be cordial with each other, for instance if by chance you run into each other on the street. the mall, the store, etc. but to be 'hang out buds' or talk on the phone about each other problems or whatever...you're looking for drama, either from the ex or their current boyfriend or girlfriend.

To hate is never a good thing. But if you have been together for awhile and you are calling it quits there is nothing wrong with being cordial. My suggestion is that you wait awhile before starting a friendship. Give yourself some time to heal and and for old feelings to die down. Being friends too fast after a long relationship will either result in you being back together or you could end up having even more anger and resentment towards the person.

mates, but being realy close mates would just be a bit too dangerous? for everyone, yes both had feelings and probably still care but you cant go to eachother with the major "dont tell anyone" things its...its relying on them too much, making it like you NEED them,so yes mates

i am friends with all of my ex's. the one i was with for 4yrs and was pretty rocky but we still talk. i dont see the reason to hate each other unless they did something horrible to you.

YES, it certainly is better than being enemies.
Some people are just too different to be sweethearts.
