I'm running Windows XP, and this morning the laptop started to not behave with our wireless network. First I thought the router's got issues, but my co-worker has no problem with the internet. I noticed that one minute everything works, the next minute I'd get disconnected. I opened the network dialog and see that about 10-20 packets are sent out every second, and maybe 1-2 packets would come in.

Has anyone had similar issues? I've already restarted the computer twice...

Thanks so much.

Addition: I'm on the right network, and the internet does work - I can access Gmail for one minute, and then the next two I'm kicked off. My co-worker on the same exact network has no problem at all.

Not Receiving Packets

If you use the Internet, just like you used to post this question, you will receive a lot more packets then you'll send. The more you download, the more received packets you'll have. This is totally normal, unless you're a server where the numbers would be reversed.

Sounds like you are not getting a connection. Check and make sure you are connecting to the same network you always do, or that you have the correct WEP key, etc...

If you are sending packets but not receiving, it means you are trying to connect to the router but it is not admitting you.

Another possibility could be that your DNS server is not working. Make sure that you either have dynamic DNS or that your settings are correct.

happens all the time, you go down to the two little computers on the right hand bottom and right click them and it'll bring up a menu there you'll see repair-click on it if that does not work unplug your router and give it a hard reset remember to save your config if you have some special ports open. other than that look at your setting in your router usually you can get to these by typing in the routers IP address and if it's a linksys and you don't know the password try the password- admin it's the default password for the linksys router at least it is for mine- Don't get any smart ideas I've got it changed and the remote access off.

The computer sends out packets attempting to connect to the router or check for antivirus updates etc... open up your network dialog window box again, click on view wireless networks make sure you are connecting to the proper network.
