Like hunter says, they have not much alternative, with injuries. I think Rikki Clarke is a good county player, but not really that effective internationally, although he is getting better.
I think they could have chosen someone like Dmitri Masceranas(Hampshire). He is a decent allrounder who is a big hitter.
But while Enlgand could have play better, and Pakistan have played very well. You have to remember half the team has gone since this time last summer.

They are persisting with Rikki Clark due to injuries to their main players and Rikki Clark has fared well in county cricket. They do not have sufficient bench strength to choose from.

they should play jams anderson instead of clarke...clarke is a useless and harmless player...he can play n retire in his county...by no meanas is he a internationa standard lplayer
