Well not in terms of vocal range, I mean not in the way Christina Aguilera is. But in terms of distinctive voice, yes. There are too many cookie cutter Christina Aguilera, Kelly Clarkson types out there who have the exact same power singer voice which I can't stand. When Christina or a million other singers come on the radio, I often don't know who it is. But Lennon, you can recognize his voice anywhere, theres no one that sounds remotely like him, except maybe Julian Lennon.
So in that sense he is one of the best.

I remember when the Beatles came to America and the frenzy that happened. No matter how much bigger, richer, louder, or anything else any other group ever gets there was a reason why VH1 reported that when they performed on the Ed Sullivan show it was the #1 television event that changed the nation out of 100 in the list.

John Lennon isn't remembered for his singing, he is remembered for just about everything else from deeply confessional lyrics to dodgy political statements. In my opnion he had a great voice, he knew how to shout and sing at the same time and that's what makes a rock n'roll singer.

He wasn't the best of singers, actually no. . . the reason we still talk about him is because of his lyrics, what he stood for, and how he lived his life. I don't think that too many people care(d) about his vocal ability because he was so much more than a singer.

I like the Beatles and John Lennon is no doubt an excellent vocalist (though there are others better than him).
However, like one poster noted, Yoko Ono should've been excluded from recording and such.

*Singer*? One of the best? As huge of a Beatles fan as I am, I can't honestly say yes to this. One of the best SONGwriters, yes.
Singer- no. Not a BAD singer, but not among The Best....no.

I think he is one of the greatest songwriters of all time and very inventive as a composer, but I don't think he was on of the greatest singers, but I don't think that matters as its better to be a great musician than a great singer.

Not a great singer - but a great writer and musician as well as having a huge influence on all kinds of music and musicians since he began.
