Hillbilly: West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee
Redneck: West Virginia, Kentucky, Mississippi
White trash: Ohio, Kentucky, western Pennsylvania
Hillbilly isn't necessarily a derogatory term. Many "hillbillies" are good, hard-working family people. The other two terms are, well, not exactly complimentary.

I agree--much of southern Indiana south of Bloomington, as well as southern Illinois south of Mt. Vernon are pretty white trash. Some parts of southwestern Virginia also qualify for the white trash and redneck categories. But, there are these types of everywhere to some degree everywhere.

hmm....i think ky qualifies for all 3...tn is pretty redneck and hillbilly....southern indiana is quite white trash, too...i pretty much agree with your list...well thought-out... :)
and to the chick below me...i was born and raised in ky...25 years. i like the state, but i can't truthfully say that it's not redneck.

yeah, some hillbillies are nice -- it's just that they sometimes make me laugh. i don't look down on them, i just find them entertaining. i think rednecks are worse than hillbillies.
what about states like alabama? oklahoma?
