I think Couric can pull it off.
The same was said about Walter Cronkite, but one November day in 1963 changed all that.
Besides, for whatever is in the pipeline, Katie is a mother of two girls, a widower and someone who can truly feel your pain especially while broadcasting Bush's state funeral following his assassination by Iranian "art students."

Well lets see how she does but I think putting Meredith Viera in her place was a huge mistake. They should have bumped up Anne Curry or Campbell Brown. I dont like M. Viera

I don't know about "cute faced-perky". I think that she is a strong "don't mess with me" person. She portrays herself as someone "approachable", but if you cross her, she will probably eat you up before you even know it. Kind of like Martha Stewart.
Just my thoughts on her...
As for the news anchor part...I don't think it will be too bad.

She would have been better spending a couple of years reporting in the field - like in war zones if she wanted credibility
