Place the aluminium foil container on a microwavable plate or glass dish. Position the aluminium foil container in the centre of the microwave oven - at least one inch from the side walls. The aluminium foil must not touch the sides of the oven, other metal, such as a metal turntable, or another container. To prevent sparking make sure the container is not touching any metallic surface. Then it will be safe.

I know what happens when you put gold trimmed plates in the microwave - the gold starts sparking and making noise. I'll bet aluminum would be worse - probably short out the nuker!

it flares up, smokes, and makes the "bzzzt...bzzzt" sound as if it's being electrocuted. i didn't do it on purpose, but one time i was heating up some leftovers and a portion of the aluminum foil got stuck, next thing i know i see it flaring/sparks

The waves bounce repeatedly off the metal because it can't absord them and you have sparks and fire. It will burn out the unit that creates the "MICROWAVES"
