for a starter...
go to http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?prodNameId=14982&lang=en&cc=us&taskId=135&prodSeriesId=25477&prodTypeId=18972
and download the proper file, for your OS (most likely XP)

if THAT doesn't do it, you REALLY have a problem >;)

some printers are plug and play and some need to have a driver or software installed first. if your printer came with a cd you might need to run what ever is on that first. if you longer have the cd you can go to HP's website look for support and downloads and you will be able to find the driver and/or the software necessary to make the printer work.
also you said you connected one cord to your computer did you connect the other cord to the outlet for power. there should be 2 cords one going from the printer to the computer and one going from the printer to the outlet.
hope this helps.

With the printer you should have a cd with all the installation software you need. Usually you have to insert the cd and install the software before connecting the printer, but it should be written on the cd. Check it out.
If you don't find the cd (or you haven't it for other reasons), you can go to the HP website and download the correct driver for your printer, they'll give you for free.

You need to install the driver. If you didn't install the software that came with the printer you should do so now.

If not, go to www.hp.com and search for your printer so you can dowload the drivers.

with any hardware you purchase the has to be software to install so the computer can recognize it. if you don't have this software you can always type in the make and model number in your search engine and you will find a site where you can down load drivers and manuals

You must install the printer in your computer, because your computer doesn't find your printer,if you don't install it.
