I don't know, I haven't been to high school in 22 years, but I'm guessing that it's more social now a days
For example:
22 years ago it was 10 social / 90 educational; Now I am guessing it's 65 social / 35 educational.

Based on personal experience (which temporarily ended just 20 minutes ago), I'd say that your estimate of 85/15 toward social goals is correct.

i agree. when i was in high school, more money was spent on the football team who never won, the cheerleading squad, and on campus beautification. i was in band and the band never got anything new. we had the same uniforms from 1960. in my debate class, we had a saying, "Campus beautification before education." they spent a lot of money building a gazeebo out in front of the school when they could have spent that money on new computers or new band uniforms.
