I don't think super skinny celebs like Victoria Beckham or Nicole Ritchie are trying to set a bad example to their fans. They have eating disorders, which are considered mental illnesses. When someone is mentally ill they don't think staight or have any common sense. The only way these girls will fully understand the behavioural thought patterns concerning their disorder,is to get professional help.

Its not Victoria Beckham and other skinny models that are sending out the wrong message they are the ones getting the wrong message from the media buying public - we are the ones who "buy into the image" who buy the magazines and the related products -if we didn't the whole "stick thin/waft look" industry would have to completely rethink and change its values - everyone prefers the likes of Charlotte Church - Jennifer Lopez and the actress on Titanic but we don't buy into that image enough - do we.

Abso-flipping-lutely, but I am not sure whether it is their intention to do it. Celebrity is the most competetive job in the world, you always have to be one step ahead of everyone else. I actually feel really sorry for these women that they are so insecure that they have to put their bodies at extreme breaking point like this. I am sure that if everyone stopped mentioning them and taking their photo they would all put on some weight. And in answer to Sibbs. I do have a super skinny daughter, but I am a size 16. The only thing that makes me feel better about it is that I know that she eats more than me and that she has a healthy balanced diet. Your children are beautiful no matter what weight they are and that kind of attitude is the one that makes for the sharp rise of eating disorders in the under 10's!

Frankly, I feel sorry for her. Celebrities can't be held totally responsible. If the media itself would stop portraying these images as "beautiful" then our young women wouldn't have the wrong message. You can't open a magazine or turn on the t.v. without these images being shoved down our throats. It's a shame. But by reinforcing to the young women in our lives the real meaning of beauty, we will at least help them realize that they are truly beautiful no matter what they look like on the outside.

I guess she is. But don't forget she's under pressure herself. If she puts on one pound it will make the cover of all the magazines. It's the whole institution of the beauty industry and these fad diets that cause women the most threat. Let's face it no one is going to look like Posh or any other stick thin model in three days- yet how often do we see this in articles?
Healthy living should be what is published. Unfortunately this doesn't sell tabloid-type magazines!

The ones sending out the worst message are the fasion houses and desingers that fete her by sending her free clothes in size 0 and thus giving the message that this is what should be aspired to. They should pick some "real woman" celebrities instead and then young girls wouldn't be left with the messaage that you have to be skinny to be successful.

In short, yes.
Whilst gay fashion business professional men, newspaper columnists, middle aged celebrity women and TV executives think thin is beautiful, real men like myself prefer women to have a womanly shape.
Marilyn Monroe, clearly the sexiest woman of the last century, was a size 16, and many other contemporary women were of a similar size.
Of modern women, I could really fancy Kate Winslet.

I don't think Victoria Beckham has the vocabulary or linguistic capability to send out any sort of message.

Yes she and other celebs that are extremely skinny are sending out the wrong type of message to young women. Do they care? Of course they don't!They are too self absorbed to care about anything other than themselves and how they look.
