back in 1974 i to was were you are now. my advice to you is to find out how old you must be to take the GED test. stay in school were you are now until you are old enough to take the test. start studying for it now while you are still in school. do not quit!! i repeat! do not quit until you are ready to take the test and pass it! then upon receiving your GED enroll in a collage course to improve your skills. then start taking collage courses. never let your self step out of school of one sort or the other till you have a associate degree. never quit! i repeat never quit! once you do you will never feel good about yourself. life hands us all a mess of problems. you were just handed a bad hand. make the most of it. use it to your advantage. show them you do have what it takes to make it. but most of all show your self! never think of your self as dumb! you can do it! we all have learning disabilities! you need concentration. but do not quit school until you have your associate degree. that is what pale grants etc. are for. go for it! here is wishing you the moon!!!

Don't give up. Look into alternative education programs, there's got to be some close to where you live. Or independent study programs, where you are able to work on your school-work in a more self-paced environment. A GED is also another option. But, not finishing HS in some way will jeopardize your future. There are very few adults who have not finished HS and make decent money. If you're willing to be underpaid for the rest of your life, then by all means, give up. But, you deserve a better quality of life than that. Plus, you'll have accomplished so much. Don't give up!

Listen closely- i trashed my academics@ your age-but turned my life around -now looking at med schools-believe it or not-you can do it-don't screw it up- graduate-try taking some placement exams-so they can speed you along through high school-and study your a-- off-you just need a little confidence-yes i felt like crying too-what you have to do is dry the tears-get tough and don't let anyone stand in your way-i don't know your situation-but what ever it may be-stay strong & move it along-people will strip you of alot of things in this life-but they can never take away your education-or your ability to change your life-good luck--and your only 17 so don't worry about the age thing!

Might be time to try passing the GED test. Go ask your counselor about it. You can take your time and study for it (especially any problem areas such as math) and then take it when ready. There's even a provision in many areas that if you will take the pre-test, they will waive the cost of the actual test. Get all the info and get going on this so you can put this behind you and move on with your life. You can do it.

keep going. i know its hard and lots of times i wanted to give up as well.
the problem is if you give up now it isnt like college where you can go back whenever you want to...after dropping out you cant go back after a certain age...and so youre stuck with a low down job...sometimes you may be able to get a descent job but not a great one...at least get that highschool diploma...decide on college from there. later schooling isnt for everyone (though society says so)

It might be more comfortable for you to attend school in the evening with ppl you own age. But because of your age I would consider a GED, also I would find a doctor to test you to see if you have any learning disabilities. Better to find out now than later.

if you are 17 and in the 9th grade there's no way in hell your going to pass a GED. my advice to you is quit spending so much time on the basketball court and start studying.I think you need to start getting serious about your education or you will be working in a car wash the rest of your life.

A GED might be your best choice. If you do decide to drop out, make sure you at least do that. and don't wait.

You can take your GED - it is the equivalent of a high school diploma. Your high school counselor can tell you how to take this test.
