Hi, I'm an Italian guy, I've to go to Egypt, on the Red Sea, but I really don't know if pay Egyptian people/services with dollars or Euro, I can save maybe money paying dollars because 1 dollars it's 0,79 Euro, and many tourist pay in Euro, so maybe for Egyptian 1 Euro = 1 Dollar... What do you suggest ?

I think it is safest to take some of both currencies.

Paying in dollars is best, the Egyptians want American dollars so you will get a better exchange rate than for Euro's.

I think that would depend on which part of the country you are going to. When I went last year I was advised to take USD, but upon arriving this currency was not widely accepted, thus I paid 2 commission charges - £ Sterling 2 USD, the USD 2 £ Egyptian.

Take Euros - you won't need to change them, so no commission!

Either take Dollars or Egyptian Pounds. Euros still not so easily accepted there!

The currency in Egypt is the EGYPTIAN POUND....
So nether euro nor dollar are better...

It is easy to get money (local currency) from an ATM (bankomat) when you get there..Or there are many place that exchange currency. (Even at the airport there is a place but you get better rates in town)

Here is a currency convertor to get the exact exchange rate

It would be silly for you to change your euro into dollar for the trip..because you are losing money on exchange fees..and both currencies are equally valued..
Many places will except euro or dollar but you will actually be paying more if pay in those currencies..because they like to rise the price for tourists.....

For example for baksheesh ..You would pay a toilet attendant just one Egyptian pound...which is about 15 euro cents... But if you paid her in Euros or Dollars.. You would have to pay a whole dollar.. And course she would be happy..but you are paying much more!!!

BTW..A common trick is to quote a price in Egyptian pounds that you agree with ...and then when you pay..They say they want the same money in UK pounds..which of course is much more....

You never save money by paying in 'hard currency' because of course the Egyptian vendor has to pay to get the foreign currency exchanged to Egyptian money..So why should he give you a discount for paying in foreign currency?

This page explains very well which currency is best to use in Egypt

NB the current rate for..
1 euro = 7.35 Egyptain pounds
1 dollar =5.73 Egyptian pounds
And all Egyptian vendors will be more than aware of the current exchange rate!

I hope that helps you and have a nice holiday. Egypt is an amazing country :-)
