My wife is a week overdue and the doctor failed to schedule an induction. The hospital we are supposed to go to are scheduling only 2 weeks in advance. We need to know what else we can do to get our baby to come.

sex (thins the cervix and ejaculate contains pitocin which is part of what a hospital uses to induce))walks (stimulates contractions) and nipple stimulation (stimulates contractions and causes your wife to release pitocin)are all great plans you should also try "making out" with her to see if her relaxing will help "move things along" also see if there is another hospital near you within a few hours of home i know the change of plans is hard but being to far overdue two weeks or more puts your baby at risk for complication as well as being hard on your wife now and during labor.

Her water doesn't have to break to go into labor. Labor is easier if your bag of water stays intact as it provides some cushion to the cervix and the contractions don't feel as intense. And once her bag breaks the chances for infection go up and she is "on the clock" to deliver.

Don't try to do anything to break her water on your own!!!!! Risks of this include infection and death!!!!!

What does the doctor say? I'm not sure what "failed to schedule an induction" means. Does the doctor think she NEEDS to be induced? For some women, the normal length of a pregnancy may be 42 weeks. As long as mom and baby are both healthy, there is no real reason to induce. Are your wife and baby doing OK? Is the doctor seeing her one or two times a week right now to keep track of how she is doing? Is she dilating yet?

Sex can help to bring on labor, if her body is ready. Semen will ripen the cervix and orgasm can bring on contractions. (Same hormones.)

Evening Primrose Oil (EPO) capsules can be inserted vaginally to help ripen the cervix. This WILL NOT cause contractions.

Walking can help bring the baby down farther to put more pressure on the cervix and make contractions more productive.

Be patient. Nothing you try is going to work if her body and her baby aren't ready yet. All babies do eventually come out.

Has the doctor tried stripping her membranes?

Take it from someone who is a mom of 5 and grandma of 9. One week overdue is nothing to be concerned about. These days the doctors usually don't even consider inducing until at least two weeks late because the due date could be off. My second child was 3 1/2 weeks late before labor was induced. Don't panic its worth the wait! And also, my water only broke on its own with one of my five kids. She will go into labor when the baby is ready whether or not the water bag breaks at home.
Congradulations and good luck!

Try not to worry...the doctor won't let your wife go over 42 weeks. If her water doesn't break by 42 weeks of pregnancy, the doctor will have to induce her. Hopefully, labor will begin on it's own.

Good luck!

Having sex can sometimes cause labor. Otherwise, you should wait until the baby is ready or the doc schedules the induction.

First off, you don't really want her water to break before she is actually in labor, and even if you did, you would have to use a very long, crochet needle type thing to do it-- so don't try that at home! Having sex can bring on labor, so try that. If nothing else, it will pass the time!

dear god. don't do anything to break the water, don't worry about that. what you want is labor. forget about the water. yeah, have sex or she can walk around a lot. other than that, the baby will come when the baby comes. but...your doctor is an idiot.

The only things that can help are having sex (didnt work for me), walking and having the doctor sweep her membranes. I would also shun the doctor after your baby is delivered for not taking better care of his/her patients!

Never induce labor without the consent of a doctor. Call the doctor first and see what they say.
