I don't see why it would be bad luck. Some get new bands, calling them anniversary bands, and some just get new bands and don't call them anything special.
If you're worried about bad luck, think about it this way. A wedding band is simply a symbol of your commitment to each other, not the commitment itself, so getting new bands doesn't change any of that. Also, over 20 years of marriage, your relationship, your love for each other, and your commitment to each other have evolved...they've grown as you have grown. Why shouldn't the symbol of all these things be updated to reflect how your marriage, your relationship, your love, and your commitment to one another have evolved?

You can have the old ones redesigned or if the new bands you like are different you can have the original bands melted down into another piece of jewelry or a keepsake. While getting something new to celebrate 20 years together is wonderful, don't forget all the laughs, tears and stories that got you there! Maybe you could (publicly or privately) renew your vows (with vows that are pertinent to your lives now) to each other to make the new rings have there own meaning. Good Luck and Congratulations!

Yes, the rings are special, but they are just a symbol on your finger so others will know you are both taken. I wouldn't think anything of it for you to buy yourself something fresh. I would keep the old rings in the hope chest to give to your kids when they get older, or have the gold melted down and made into something to hang from matching thin gold chains, just for something special =)

I think that if you both would like new bands you should do it. If you are concerned about the supernatural, you could put the old ones away (safe deposit or something) and get new bands to celebrate 20 years.

No you can get new ones. I think it is cute to get new ones kind of like renewing it plus it gives you something else to show off :) I think new ones is a good idea my parents did that my dad got more money and wanted to get my mom a better ring and he did and my mom loved it.

Do you believe in "bad luck"? I don't, I can only answer from a rational standpoint: if you feel like getting new rings, then do it, I don't see a problem with it.

I would do it but why not go all out and renew your vows again too?
I think that would be romantic and give the new rings some sentimental value too!

I think it's pretty standard.
You could go check out your options fore redesigning your current set with a good jeweler if you're superstitious.
Good luck
