When I turn on my PC, I get an error message that says that my primary drive (hard disk drive) is not found. Below that, it says to press F1 to continue or F2 to run the setup utility. I'm confused about all this and don't know what to do. Hopefully, somebody can help me out.

Normally this message occurs when the hard drive has died. First thing to check would be to open the caser and make sure all cables leading to the drive are plugged in and secure. If they are then the next thing would be to check the bios to see if there is a hard drive self test utility. Run this and see if it gives any recommendations. Other than that hard drive is probably toast and beyond recovery. Have had rare instances in this case where you can use ERD commander to recover some data after letting the drive cool a while or placing in the refrigerator for a while. Hope this helps

1. Unplug your Computer/Shut Off
2. Open your Computer Case
3. Unplug your HDD/IDE Cable wait for a few seconds
4. Plug again the IDE/HDD Cable
5. Turn on your computer
6. Press F2 to run the CMOS/BIOS Setup
7. Detect your Hard Disk Drive
Note: If there is no Hard Drive found try to Slave your HDD... if error occurs try to change a new HDD/IDE Cable.
8. Save and Exit BIOS
If there's no response with your HDD... try to contact your technical support...

Run the F2 setup. This is taking you to the CMOS chip which all you have to do is let it open up and see if your Hard drive shows up and if it dosen't show that you have one, have it search for one and SAVE it and exit and the computer will reboot itself and that F1 and F2 shouldn't show up again.

This could happen if you have a disk in the A: drive. Check to make sure there is no disc in your floppy drive. If there is, take the disc out and try again. It should boot normally.

Sounds like your harddrive has crashed. Which means you will need a new harddrive. The only other thing I can think of is the cable is bad.
