The average boy at this age is going through some confusing times- his body is changing, visual elements cause erections and sensations that are different than anything else he has felt...
Most guys at this point find some visual stimuli- for some of us this was the Sears catalog lingerie section or certain articles in National Geographic. Some of us found our dad's stash or were able to luck into some mags. Others can just surf the net.
Masturbation usually starts showing up about the same time. It is a pretty natural thing to try.
The problem occurs in how this phase is treated. A boy can become obsessed with the stuff, become guilt-ridden over his behaviors, or just explore it and move on.
I don't think anyone has ever found the perfect way to talk about this with their son. The goal is to let them know that this is a natural phase that every kid goes through, that if they have a question they can talk to you (or your spouse, or someone they trust), and that they just need to be discreet (as if the kid needs to be told that!)
I think a lot of people try too hard in this phase to either support it or stamp it out- and I think both reactions are equally wrong (the supportiveness is usually just plain embarassing!) I also think a lot of people automatically jump right to The Big Sex Talk at this point- but I think that should come a little later.

perv. hardly think that. why not i started a little early too 9yrs old . One day i started getting hard and it just wouldn't go down,so I had to learn all about what was going on with my man thing . so if you haven't told him about his little package you probably ought too. And give him some respect knock on his bedroom door before entering cause if you don't you might find him playing with himself. really is not a bad thing. Not to be smart ,but god wouldn't have made a ( boys / mans or even a woman's arm long enough to reach it little lone masturbate. Its just a fact of life...................

Honey all men are perverts thats life and what he is doing is normal and yes im sure he is masturbating also.BUt its no big deal boys do this everyday and they grow into decent men!
