I want to know how to contact other countries to ask for teaching materials to expose my students to other cultures. Things like currency, maps, flags, etc... I have heard that many countries will send things to teachers around the world, I just don't know who I need to ask for such items. Thank you!

Contact that country's embassy or tourism office in your home country. Send a well-written letter outlining why you want the materials, how they will benefit the students, and how they fit into the overall curriculum and education goals for students at that level. "Exposing students to other cultures" is (as I'm sure you know) far too vague.

Be sure to print the letter on school letterhead.

Pick a country and contact a teacher in the same grade as you. Have the whole class exchange pen pals with them. You and the other teacher can exchange materials as well. I could help you find the contacts if you can decide on what country you and your class want to learn about. When I was a student, our teacher let us choose our own countries and we found pen pals with contacts that he had. I loved it. I had a great learning experience. I've enclosed a link to several sites that do classroom penpals. good luck.

Maybe some of the kids in your class have parents, aunts and uncles, grandparents from other countries. Maybe invite them to visit and bring some things and tell a story or two. Cheaper and way more interesting I bet.

Encourage your student to e.mail contact with other countries.
ther are sites for schools - and even by i.m. massages they can.
it is just a question of will.
and they can send it to you by e.mail - better than by the "old" post.
