I think the idea behind the 21 is that a person of that age should be mature enough to handle a drink whereas someone younger might lose control and end up being a drunken homeless bum on the streets.

It is pretty stupid that you can fight in a war but you can't have a drink before you go. Even though I don't believe 18 is old enough to be fighting in a war anyway. I say we reverse the ages - 18 to drink - 21 to serve your country!

Right. You can die for your country at 18, but can't have a drink the night before you ship out. 21 is a very arbitrary number. Let me know when someone in congress explains that in a way that makes sense,

It is tied to federal funding for road construction. And when I turned 18, I moved to a place that just raised the age to 21.

I believe if you are old enough to DIE for your country at age 18, you are old enough to have a couple of drinks too.

I'm not really sure but it should be 18. If you are old enough that your country can make you go to war and die, then your old enough to decide if you want a beer.

3 years removed from graduating high school seems good. If it were 19 or 20, you would buy beer for your younger high school mates. 21 ensures you'll only inebriate yourself.
