Definutly A hard call between Final Fantasy 7 and Breath of Fire 4. I would have to give the points to Breath of fire though because even though EVERYONE knows FF7 and it's crew anyone who knows BoF4's enemy Fou lu knows that he is the biggest badguy on the planet and that sephiroth could only wish to have fou lu's power ^_^.

I can't pick... So I'll list my top two favorites:

Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI (III, whatever). I have both games for the SNES, and the stories in them are masterworks of orchestrated plot and character that makes them truly unique. They don't need super fancy graphics, though they are stunning for 32-bit. They used what they had so expertly that I marveled. The dialogue in both is creative and artistic, and each of the characters has a story, a reason, and a believable persona.
