Is there a dance form that has stood the test of time for decades, or years?

Will there be a dance form that is popular now that could be popular in the future?

I think ballet has truly stood the test of time. Hip hop, jazz lyrical- these are all new forms. It also shows no signs of dying out as more and more people sign up for it every day.

I think hip hop will continue it's ever increasing popularity. A lot of people are liking how fun it is, and for people who think ballet is too stiff for them, hip hop is a perfect alternative. I personally like both.

Ballet, of course, is only two hundred years old, and women's participation is only about 100 years. So that's not really an old-timer.
Tap dancing is also a fairly recent dance form. Hip hop and the rest of that ilk are new kids on the block.
Ballroom dancing is a century old, but the one dance form that has lasted is the country dance or round dance. These are the traditional dances that people did, and in their updated versions, include square dances. The interesting thing is that the country dances included everyone. You didn't need a partner. They could be done by all male or all female groups, or by mixed groups. And they surely will endure.

Folk dancing.

Ballet.

Ballroom is reatively youing, but it's been around for a while.
In ballroom dancing the oldest dance is Vienneze Walts. This dance, along with Tango, pretty much started ballroom as you know it now. Tango used to belong to Latin category.

Ballet, because it started way back in the 1600's and is still popular today. Personally, I think that it will still be popular in the furture if it's been around this long.
