You may not have to go through the trouble of an XP Pro load. Do you have XP Home? If so, do a system restore to the earliest possible date. Then the first thing you should do is go to Windows Update and load all the critical fixes. Be sure you take it all the way to the latest version of SP2, as this has improved firewall protection.
If you have Windows 98, loading Windows XP Home should be fine. The big differences with XP Pro is the heavy-duty Administrator protection and networking. If you're doing the typical home networking and are the computer's only user, XP Pro isn't worth the extra cost. If several people use this computer, then you might want to think about XP Pro.
Again, if you have XP Home, do a system restore. I did this a couple of times when something got into my computer and wouldn't let go. You will have to re-install some software but any files you want to keep will still be there. Otherwise, doing a restore cleaned up the problem.

Avoid making the same mistakes which led to spyware to clutter to begin with.
Buy an XP CD and start installing.

Here's the best way to do that:
Restart your computer and boot from XP bootable cd.
It'll allow u to format your hard drive. then you can make a freash installation.
OR
You can start windows setup in your current operating system and install XP but this way u won't be able to format C drive.
