Just give them one vote, and then the people have spoken. Do we spread democracy against people's wills?

Catch 22. In order to vote, a nation must be a democracy. In order to become a democracy, a nation must vote.

Iraq has been a country run by terrorism. It is a place where women were beaten and or killed for being raped. If they get to vote then they get democracy, if they don't want democracy then they don't vote. They just join the faction of Iraqis that resist Democracy, and then I hope they let Saddam out. He knew how to deal with Fundamentalist Islam. I believe he is on trial for how effective he was. They hated him, and now they hate us. I just think they have a problem with authority no matter who is in charge...

They did. When 12 million turned up to vote at the polls.
They voted for their constitution which defines whether or not they are a democracy. Then they voted for their representatives.
The Iraqi people have spoken. Why don't you listen?

Not hard to undo democracy, if there is that much opposition to it. What a government is or is not is always up to the people who have to live under it. It just becomes a matter of HOW they are willing to sacrifice to change it, or how much it even matters to them. No matter how you slice it, governments exist at the behest of their people. Some forms of government last longer than others either because they do a moderately successful job of serving those people, or the government is sufficiently paranoid and ruthless at remaining in power so that their ferocity outlasts any opposition to it.

Democracy, by definition, is representation of people's wills....ANYTHING else is definitionally AGAINST people's wills.
What is it you expect people's wills to choose?
Totalitarianism? Despotism? Military junta? Religious rule? What exactly?
If the Iraqis were OPPOSED to democracy, none would have voted (like the Sunnis, who preferred THEY were in power only, and subjugating others to THEIR will).
Before you piss all over democracy, look at the alternatives, they are ALL damaging to the human will.
Democracy represents the apex of human political achievement, any other forms are mere compromises of the people's will you intend to preserve.

They have the option to vote for any pary they like, even if it's Communist, Sharia, or whatever. That by deffinition is freedom. Democracy could be voted out by the public so it can not be done against the publics will.

They did, Einstein. Did you sleep through their elections?
The question is: Why don't Cubans get to vote for anyone other than Castro? Why don't Venezuelan opposition candidates get too close to winning before accidents happen to them?

1) Since it wasn't a democracy under Saddam they couldn't vote to say whether they wanted a democracy or not at that time. Saddam wouldn't let them.
2)What you are proposing is a democratic idea since you say let them vote to voice what they want.
HICHEFHEIDI, WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT IN YOUR RESPONSE TO WMCRITTER? HAMAS IS IN PALESTINE, NOT IRAQ, HE IS TALKING ABOUT IRAQ.

I'm pretty sure they did vote on it. After their dictator was ousted, they came up with their own government. I think we helped but it was utimately up to the people of Iraq.
