Depends on the car and what they put in it. Instrument panel is everything that the driver uses to monitor everything about the car. this may or may not include a tachometer, speedometer, voltage meter, fuel gauge, temperature gauge, odometer, and various other things. really depends on the car.

RP is absolutely correct: It varies from vehicle to vehicle.
Typically, what you will see is a speedometer (how fast in MPH or KPH), a tachometer (how fast the engine is running, in revolutions per minute), a fuel guage (how much gas you have), and an indicator to tell you what gear you are in (Park, Neutral, Drive, if equipped with an automatic transmission).
Many vehicles are equipped with so-called "idiot lights", which illuminate when there is a problem that requires attention, rather than guages that monitor engine functions. Amber (yellow) lighted icons are reminders, such as "check engine", "ABS (Anti-Lock brake system)", or, on newer vehicles, something that looks like a cross-section of an underinflated tire with a ! in the middle (TPM or Tire Pressure Monitoring system). These tell you to have your vehicle inspected by a qualified technician at your earliest convenience.
Red lighted icons indicate a serious problem that requires your immediate attention. If a red icon that looks like a battery illuminates, it means your battery is being drained by the vehicle's engine. If a red icon that looks like an old-fashioned oil can, or the word, "oil" illuminates, PULL OVER IMMEDIATELY AND SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. This one is very serious. It means you have no, or very little, oil in the engine.
All icons light up at vehicle ignition, to indicate that the sensors have run a self-check, and are functioning properly. This lasts about 3 to 5 seconds. If an "idiot light" stays illuminated for more than, say, 30 seconds, it is a warning.
"SRS" means airbags (supplemental restraint system). The thing that looks like a guy with a seatbelt means you need to fasten your seatbelt. "<--Fuel or Fuel-->" tells you which side to pull up to at the pump. This can save some embarrassment.
"Door open" is pretty self-explanatory. Close the door."Brake" means you either have your parking brake on, or your brake fluid is low. If it stays on after you release the parking brake, drive your vehicle to the nearest qualified technician for a brake evaluation.
The sound system I will leave for you to figure out.
Your vehicle owner's manual will have specifications for all the information displayed on your dash. If you do not have one, contact your local dealer for a copy.
