Due to learning disabilities and some other factors, I have an IEP that allows me to use a laptop to type my notes instead of writing them by hand. School just started a week ago and things are going fairly well, except for assignments that I type out that are due during the same class period. Whenever I try looking for a portable printer that I could maybe store in a teacher's room or in the office, all I get are printers that only do 4x6 photos.
Is there such a thing as a small printer that will just print black and white documents, and that I could easily store in a classroom? If it could do color that would actually be quite nice for use during the summer, but right now all I need is a cheap, tiny printer.
Also, is there such a thing as a printer that's thin enough for me to actually put in my messenger bag and carry from class to class, or is that just wishful thinking on my part? Thanks!

Yes there is portable printers out there that do full standard page size. To of main companies are HP and Cannon. There is a few posted on eBay from time to time if cost is a factor. They are small enough to fit into a laptop bag.
I have test printed both types and I prefer the Cannon version the best. Both printers offer the ability to be hooked up via USB or use blue tooth technology.

Go to HP.com and look into the HP 460c portable printer. It's exactly what you are looking for. It connects to your laptop with the universal USB cable and the printer itself comes with a lithium-ion battery that will print 450 pages per charge. It also comes with a power cable that you could plug into the wall if you desired. It usually retails around $250 but it may be on sale this week.

is very stylish, light , and high quality it's about 1.2 kg and easy to be fit in your laptop bag.
also it has optional bluetooth for printing wirelessly
and there was also one old model from canon BJC55
was the smallest printer i've ever seen in my life but i guess they don't sell anymore from that model

I know this is kinda pricey but HP has this small printer that has bluetooth, if your laptop has bluetooth you can use it wirelessly
