It started Sunday, three days ago and it hasn't let up. It is a dull pain in my upper abdominal area, just below my chest. I don't feel nauseous, and eating doesn't seem to increase or decrease the pain. It hurts more in certain positions, specifically if I bend over. Pregnancy is not probable. Thanks in advance!

Upper Abdominal pain just below the chest has many reasons. Ulcer, Gallbladder, Pancreas, Heart, Gastritis. Also there could be referred pain from the bowel. Any pain that lasts more than a couple of days needs to be investigated by a Physician. I would recommend that you seek professional help with this problem as it could be very serious. You do not state your age or sex and this could have a bearing as to the cause. Also you do not admit that this pain has been a problem in the past, so I assume that it is a new complaint....this means to me that it is much more likely to be a new problem and suggests that you should seek Medical help in finding out what this pain might be caused by.

I think you should see a doctor.
I sometimes get pain similar to yours, but it's acute rather than longer, so I would suggest that yours is more mechanical than digestive. Have you lifted anything heavy lately? Could you have pulled a muscle (they can hurt like crazy for a few days), shifted something out of kilter? Can you feel anything external when you touch your abdomen that is odd or different from usual?

I doubt it, but might be worth asking the doctor to check for a hernia (easy to put right with a simple op).

If it's very high up (i.e. nearly in your sternum) it might be worth asking the doc to look for chostocondritis (nothing serious, just means you've got sore gristle between your rib bones).

Either way - get it checked out. Try NHS direct as a first port of call if you're in the UK. They're on 0845 4647 and they're really nice and helpful. (Yes, it is a short number, it does work).

Hope you feel better soon!

I have been having the same pain. But only my pain is not dull but it is really sharp every now and then and it seems to get worst at night. I went to the ER about 4 months ago and they told me it was just heartburn but it feels like it should be more than just heartburn. So i don't know what it could be other than heartburn. But hopefull you will feel better soon.

Could be gas, or possibly an ulcer or even acid reflux. Go to your doctor, but it's probably nothing.

Wow...I've been having THE SAME EXACT ISSUE in the same place...My doctor once stated it was pancreatitis...but all my blood work came back as normal...I've had this issue for 8 years...if you find a cure, please let me know because it's very painful.

Good luck!

Could be your gallbladder. I can't imagine gas or heartburn lasting three days straight.
