You're doing yourself a huge favour by making a start on classical music rather than the mindless, repetitive junk that infests most iPods etc. If you like piano music, try Rachmaninov's 1st & 2nd Concertos and his Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, then go on to the Grieg, Chopin and some more Beethoven/Mozart. There's a whole new world of delight just waiting for you!

I recently started to listen to a lot more classical music, with my favourite composer being Karlheinz Stocjhausen or Oliver Messiaen. Both composers are very different and imaginative in their work, with Oliver Messiaen being inspired by the beauty of the natural world and also his strict Catholic belief, Stockhausen by his despair at tired dusty and unimaginative preformances.
My favourite piece in particualr is Zyklus which is different to many pieces in that the sheets of the music can be played in any order, the pages can be turned upside down, and the conductor can choose to start from any place without any detrimental effects to the quality of the piece. In the first performance, the sheet music was thrown up into the air, and the resulting pile made the performance that night.
So classical music can be interesting!

I do, but then again I played classical piano for 13 years & did a little teaching as well. Sometimes, especially when I'm just over-loaded with stress, there's nothing like submerging in the classics. Mozart, Bach, Strauss, Chopin....too many to even mention.

I love Prelude in C# Minor, Moonlight Sonata, Autumn Leaves, and again too many to count or list.

I'll also admit that I'm a closet rag-time gal & Joplin really helps elevate my moods. Thank you for asking. The question alone gives me a smile.

I listen to Kerrang, Heavy Metal/indie music alot.

BUT

Classical music rocks - Mozart was the slipknot of his time :)
There is always a piece of music to go with your emotions or mood. I have many favourites but one at the moment that i listen to alot is Cannon by Pachabel, I also use classical music with my 7 mth old to relax him and then to bang at ( the 1812th).
It has to be remembered that without the classics there would be no modern music.

I love Beethoven's work, indeed I love classical, having only discovered it a few years ago.

Moonlight Sonata

As the first note sounds
I stop in my tracks and the whole world stops.
Immediately recognisable,
I wait in eager anticipation
For the sensual journey that is to come.

Excitement builds within me
And the electricity starts to flow.
Gathering momentum,
The tingling consumes and energises
And my heart soars.

Oh!, the joy, the thrill,
The solace, peace and satisfaction.

I am fulfilled.

The only thing I tend to listen to in country. I used to listen to Classic FM, could never remember the names of the good tunes tho! I had a very stressful job and would go and sit in a field at lunch and listen to it, the guy had such a smooth wonderful voice, I think I would have married him just for that voice! It was so calming, got me through many rough days.

definately. I am a particular fan of Mozart's marriage of figaro and Puccini's madame butterfly, notably the arias. Mozarts symphonies are fantastic too.
Brahms is good for driving to as he is quite soothing and not too complex.
Just as an idea, my collection also includes metallica, the pogues, eva cassidy, jonny cash - the list is endless...
