You keep plans to a minimum and let your instincts guide you to where you will be next. To live in the moment is to be constantly cruising through unchartered waters. Few of us have the courage to do this.

this is something I struggle with. What does living in the moment mean to me? It means living in a place I don't reside in right now. My mind is always lost in what was or what will be. It is very hard for me to focus on the "now". Although I am presently typing this answer and trying to think of what living in the moment means.....I am really just thinking I should probably take a shower soon and get some sleep.....or wondering if what I just typed even makes any sense. Chances are it doesn't...and its probably because my mind was off frolicking somewhere else for a bit.

Our purpose in life = Live Life to the Fullest. You're question makes us wonder whether that is our only purpose in life and how to achieve that. Life life to the Fullest = Live today as it's your last day, never regret the past , don't worry about future. All of us should have our own checklist . I have mine, it's quite simple but workable. For example 1) To start each day joyfully and end it happily. 2) To make at least 1 person's day happy 3) Career decision - to reach a .... post by the yr ... the list can go on. When you have this goals , we try to achive this to our best capability. This experiences should make us wiser and a better person . Do a personal review every 10 yrs. Have you grown wiser, has the experiences made you a better person . If not, it's time to do something about it. Has your relationship with God improved ? How is your self confidence ? All this is defined in live life to the fullest. There are alot of other definitions for this, but too lengthy to go on.

Not thinking about other things at the same time you're doing a task or an activity. You can apply this to the important (as when you're with a lover) or the mundane (like folding laundry-- gives it a meditative quality). If you study acting, they're always talking about being "in the moment" which I took to mean you're not thinking, "hey, what was I supposed to do next?" but just being.

Living in the moment means being focused on what is happening RIGHT NOW. Not yesterday, long ago, tomorrow, next year and so forth. Don't spend your time worrying about what will happen later or dwelling on what happend in the past. All that doesn't matter one iota. What matters is right NOW. All power is in the present moment.

Forget about the past and don't worry about what the future holds in store for you. Rather concentrate on the present and give it your full attention.
You're doomed if you try to live day-by-day. Life consists of a continuous string of moments!

living in the moment is to be here and now, without burdens of the past and projections into the future. it is about being intelligent enough to understand what is and living with it. it is not getting carried away into streams of thoughts which take off tangent every time a sensory perception takes place. to live in the moment is to give this moment total attention. when total attention is given to the now, instead of dissipation due to fears or anxieties or even plain dreaming and thinking of what had happened or what will happen in the future, the level of living goes up several notches up to the level of intelligence. one can think and plan about the future or even remember the past without any emotional or psychological color to it. that will be living in the moment.

Mindfulness. Do what you do. When you eat, eat, when you drink tea, drink tea, when you write answers here, write answers here, and so on. The opposite is, when you eat, think about which cinema you will watch tonight, when you drink tea, argue with your wife, when you write answers here, think about how you can make everyone think your a brilliant thinker, and so on.
Just do what you do, and give everything it's own time.
