Hiya,

Over the last couple of weeks the water out of the taps has become very hot
(scalding).
The boiler is on on a maintenace contract with british gas. They have come
out and looked and said there is nothing that can be done. "The temperature
is dictated by the amount of gas pressure which is preset in the factory."
The temperature gauge on the front is only for central heating apparently.
Is this correct? What could have caused it to suddenly start happening?

Any advice appreciated

It doesn't have a thermostat to alter the water temperature? I think the engineer is right, the gauge on my boiler is for the central heating. Try looking on the boiler makers website for advice.

Call British gas and request another tech come out to look at the system. The previous tech apparently is not familiar with a boiler. Gas pressure has nothing to do with the temperature in any appliance. All boilers have a thermostat installed otherwise they would overheat and constantly expel the steam through the temperature and pressure relief valve. Also since this boiler is also used as the water heater then it Had to have a second thermostat installed to regulate the temp at the faucets as to prevent the very problem you are describing. Usually these systems will have a circulation pump to mix the hot water with cold in order to regulate the temp. Either that thermostat is bad and or a problem exist with the pump.

"The temperature is dictated by the amount of gas pressure which is preset in the factory."<--- Never heard of that before. BUT, If the same boiler is used for heat and for tap, whats happening is you have a single handle faucet somewhere in house that's bad. Is your bathtub a single handle that u pull out. They have Mix-it valves, when they go bad, it will mix the hot with the cold and make all the cold water taps hot, Y IM if further info is needed

we assume the engineer knows what he is talking about. Water pressure through the boiler may be less than when it was set up allowing the water more time through the boiler. Have any stopcocks / valves been closed on the inlet side and not fully opened? You need a manual to see if you have any adjustment on the printed circuit board or phone the manufacturers customer helpline. You dont say what type of heating system you have and if you have a hot water tank with an electric immersion heater, the thermostat may be faulty

this could be caused by the water running over the boiler flames too slow, try regulating the flow of water, this sometimes happens if you have done a recent repair to taps etc, it may be that the ball o fix valve needs opening a bit more...is the water running out slower than normal?

if it is a combi boiler there should be 2 controls one for water one for heating.Or maybe your water pressure has dropped this will cause it.
