FIRST UK MILLENNIUM MILLIONAIRE FROM SUFFOLK

A resident from Suffolk has become the United Kingdom's first Millennium millionaire by winning the Premium Bond January jackpot with a winning bond of £5,000.

The lucky person became the first Millennium millionaire in the UK and ERNIE's 70th millionaire when the winning Premium Bond number was announced at 00:01 hours on 1 January 2000.

The winner has a total holding of £20,000 of Premium Bonds. The Bond that hit the jackpot was bought in July 1997.

National Savings Head of Commercial Development Gill Cattanach said:

"We are delighted to announce the first millionaire winner of the new Millennium. ERNIE also awarded 600,000 other prizes worth £39 million, bringing New Year cheer to hundreds of thousands of other Premium Bond holders.

"This month sees shorter odds and extra prizes. In March the odds will improve again and there will be even more prizes. It is estimated that the March prize draw will have over 650,000 tax-free prizes worth over £42 million."

William De Warrenne in 1170, the richest man that ever lived.
He was worth £6 million then, that translates as about £5 trillion nowadays. That is 5 years US military spending. Makes Bill Gates look like he is a pauper.
