No he didn't ask to die while filming at The Great Barrier Reef.He was there to educate the people on the decline of the coral there due to pollution and rising water temperatures. He should still be here if it were not for the freak accident of the barb entering his chest and puncturing his heart. There have only been 17 deaths since they started counting them he was the 17th.It was a very unusual circumstance. He will be missed by his fans and his wife and two children.

If you are referring to his death, he was not doing anything untoward at the time. He was filming a reef. The stingray was apparently between Steve and the camera man and felt trapped, reacting to the perceived situation naturally.
Now if you are asking if he received what he deserved in life?
No and yes. For all the publicity he gave to endangerd animal, for presentig the situation in such a manner as to reach even small children? No, how can you properly reward that? His impact can not be measured and he was a remarkable teacher.
Yes, he died doing what he loved, enjoying nature in all its elements while filming an underwater documentary on the Great Barrier Reef, a project that he and his daughter were to present on TV.

You're not the first one to ask this question, so I don't know why you feel the need to ask it again. Steve Irwin devoted his life to understanding those animals better and to teach the rest of us about them. Like alot of people I agreed in the past that it was likely he would get hurt pursing his career, but I still admired him for it. He did not ask for this and I feel very badly for him and his wife and children.

Eh...not sure. I mean, yeah he was a bit too risky when it came to his job but he was still somewhat young. 44 isn't an age anyone should die at. At least he died doing something he loved.
