I do sit ups and push ups with Maya riding on me. 8 Months may be a little young for the push ups, but the sits ups work well. Also, we turn on music and DANCE! When she was younger I would hold her, or put her on the floor while I danced. But it is the BEST exercise. Now she will walk up to the stereo and turn it on and start spinning around. It is the most fun and we usually end up on the floor laughing out butts off. That is the nice thing about kids, you can be just as silly as you want and they think your better for it.

I know towns sometimes open certain schools in the evening for walking (well, my town does anyway). Call around to the Parks and Recs departments in your area to see if they do that.
Does it have to be at night? What about a Mommy and Me class? Or some gyms have babysitting services that are pretty reasonable.

Baby is old enought for tot swimming lessons.
How about trading off with another Mom and go to the gym?
Some gyms offer baby care for a 1 hour workout.

Bundle him up and hold him while you walk. It will be like holding weights. You'll burn more calories and he'll stay bundled and warm. May daughter loves it.
