I am building a flowerbed with stones. One of them has moss on it, and it's really pretty. I want the moss to grow on all of the stones. Is there something in particular I can put on the stones which will encourage moss growth? I thought maybe spraying them with milk or sugar water or something... just a thought, does anyone know?

You can take some plain yogurt and paint it on your rocks. I have tried this before on a concrete bench and it worked for me.

Moss likes and acidic environment. Sprinkle some soil sulfur around the rocks and it will acidify the soil. They also like moisture and shade. Kepp it moist, not soggy. If it is in the sun--cross your fingers, sometimes with the other conditions the way it likes it it will grow anyway.

Moss has no true roots so most fertilizers have little effect. You can use Miracle Grow liquid fertilizer mixed at half strength once a month or so--but even that is usually not necessary.

I encourage moss to grow between the rocks in my stone path by putting vinegar on the stones. I either spray them or use the water that I wash my hardwood floors with, which is vinegar and water. This is not going to help you as it will not stick to the rocks but works for between them.

Take a small portion of the moss and put it in buttermilk then in a blender then pour the blended mix or paint on the rocks you want to have the moss.

I've heard that you should put yogurt on the stones and the moss will grow on that. Never tried it but seen it on TV.

no miracle answer here, but I'd think low sun, and lots of moisture is a good start.
