Depends on the jurisdiction. In England, and in Massachusetts the last time I was there (admittedly many years ago, unless you count I-95 going south) it isn't unlawful to park facing the wrong way.
But my daughter and another English friend were in California, and the friend parked the wrong way and got yelled at by a cop. But no ticket once he heard her accent.

Sucks you got caught...
Anyways, I'm not sure where you live so unfortunately I can't give you more exact information. But when I lived in Iowa, I got a Parking in a Handicapped Spot ticket- and I wasn't completely parked in it, a snow bank in another spot made me park half way in it, so I contested it, but that is a different story!
Anyways, for parking tickets- you need to go down to your local "city office" to contest it within usually 30 or 60 days of your parking ticket. So now would be a good time! They'll give you a form to fill out and you basically can lie or whatever on the form to contest it. Give your story. Usually they don't even bother with you because you took the time to go down there and fill out the form. It should be stricken from your record.
Good luck.

scoobyd3 has the best advice, as well as the one above him about the officer not showing up. Both of these are ways to get out of it, although some jurisdictions are not making the officer show up anymore the fact he wrote the ticket is good enough, check your jurisdiction and find out. If you were wrong and knew you were wrong when you did it, then you need to be an adult and own up to your mistake. It is the people that try to get out of things that cause laws to be changed or new ones to come about and make it harder on the rest of us.

Is the ticket from the apt. complex or the city? I would try to say that there were no signs stating that you couldn't park that way, or the signs were obstructed by trees or bushes.

Check for a local ordinace that says such parking is prohibited. If you cannot find one then check the area for sign that states such parking is prohibited. If neither exist, then how can you as a citizen supposed to know the was a ticketable offense.

I challenged my parking ticket--the charges were dropped because the issuing officer didn't show up for court.

ask to speak to a hearing officer at the court house, tell your side of the story and if you have a clean record and this is your first time with any kind of ticket, it easily could be dismissed.
