I was also shocked, but I always thought he would die with some project. But I have to admit he was pretty brave. It is pretty sad though when you think about it. If I ever saw one of those animals I would scream and run for my life. I mean snakes and crocodiles are pretty scary things. Oh well though, he lived a good life. But I didn't know he was 44! I thought he was more like 37. Somethings are just shocking. I found out on the Yahoo new when I logged into my messenger that day.

Yes - i agree it was sad but i think when they say "Shocking" they are more surprised that it was something as innocent as he wsa doing - swimming above a sting ray to be stabbed in the chest with it's tail as opposed to having a crocodile bite his head off when he sticks his head in it's jaw. I am assuming that's what they meant - it's just so surreal. I was shocked to see it myself when i logged onto Yahoo to check email yesterday. I do agree with you though on the playing with fire bit. I wonder had he not pulled it out himself if he'd have any better chances at survival? It's a shame.

I think Steve was a great person who lived to educate people and it was very shocking on how he died. He knew animals better then anyone in the world I think, and for him to die like that just isn't right. But I'm sure his wife Terri knew someday something tragic would happen, just probably not this soon!

On the one hand, I agree. That he would die in a confrontation with a wild animal is hardly suprising.

On the other hand, getting stabbed in the heart by stingray? That's pretty shocking whoever's involved.

Experts agree human deaths caused by stingrays are extremely rare and speculate the stingray may have felt trapped between the cameraman and the TV star.

Horrible and Sad-Yes
Shocking - No
That doesn't mean we are heartless- just stating a fact. Did they say it was shocking when Dale Earnhardt died racing? I believe he knew there was a great risk but he died doing what he loved to do. It is a great loss to his fans everywhere.

This guy didn't just play with fire, He played with raging Infernos.

Thats why it shocked me to see him burned to death by a Zippo.

Not a shocker, but very sad. The croc hunter seemed like a nice guy, too bad for him and his wife.

Not shocking had he died by a croc. But shocking in that most stingrays are very gentle and rarely attack.
