1. you can be doing it at all the wrong times
2. there is a problem with both or one of you
3. other factors such as stress
If you've been actively trying, it's time to go see a fertility doctor. I've known people trying for 10 years for no avail, and the docs can't even find anything definitively wrong.

I've read that 80 percent of couples having unprotected sex will get pregnant within 12 months. Age plays a role, because women's fertility drops with age, particularly after age 35. I think the statistic is more like 60 percent of women over 35 get pregnant within one year of trying.
If you are having trouble, and it sounds like you are, it really helps to use ovulation test strips, that can pinpoint exactly when you are ovulating (wen you are most likely to get pregnant) so you can have sex at the right time of the month. If you have lots of sex, but not when you are most fertile, its nearly impossible to get pregnant! You pee on the strips (or dip them in urine) and get results within a few minutes. You can buy them at any drug store or online.
Also, are you taking prenatal vitamins and is your partner taking vitamins every day? This can help. Also, eating plenty of fruits and veggies improves your health (and fertility).
Also, does your man avoid hot tubs, hot baths, and is he wearing
boxers (not briefs). If he gets too hot, it can kill his sperm.
Position also matters (missionary is best) and after sex you should lie with your legs up (over the headboard) to help the sperm reach their target (and keep them from leaking out).
I've also read on a government Web site that caffeine (found in coffee, tea, iced tea, chocolate, and soda) can reduce your fertility by up to one half. So both you and your partner should completely cut out all drugs, medications, tobacco use, and caffeine. ( Of course, talk to your doctor first before quitting any prescribed medications.)
Regular exercise (like brisk walking 30 minutes to 60 minutes per day) can boost fertility, and I've read that being underweight or obese can impair fertility so strive for a normal weight.
Stress can also play a role, so consider taking up yoga or getting a Fertility Yoga DVD and practice it at home.
Finally, I would recommend seeing your regular doctor for some fertility tests.
Good luck!

Time to see your GYN for a reference to an infertility specialist
It is not necessarily that something is wrong is it just to rule out any reason that you have not getting preg yet
Good Luck

You should both be checked by a doctor because it may not be your fault totally but your partner might also have a low sperm count
