what do I do about a guy that isn't a "talker." He has very short responses or says "I don't know" all the time. He seems to have no opinion! Why do guys act like this with a girl? How do I get him to communicate verbally more to our conversations?

*and don't tell me to listen, i'm a good listener, he's just not talking.

It seems like the only time some men want to talk is if it's about them, what's important to them, sports, etc.... I guess you can start by talking about things that are important to him and get his attention.. then slip in what you wanna talk about. If he goes back to his "I don't know" phase, start talking about sports again or him, and then try again. I'm sorry to inform you, but some men are selfish and only care about themselves. It takes effort to show that you care about someone else and what they are talking about. Some men just don't want to take that effort because they are so self absorbed. He also could legitimately not be a talker, but if he cares about you and knows you want him to talk a little, then he should at least make and effort to make you happy. You're not asking for much, just some conversation.

Try talking about things that he's really into. If you've tried that, and hes still quiet, he may just be an introverted person, and you gotta break his shell. take him out to parties, loosen him up with a couple drinks, and so on. Maybe he has a confidence, or self esteem thing goin on that needs work? He could be really nervous when he's with you too. Doesnt wanna say the wrong thing, sounds stupid, or scare you off with something that might come out. Sometimes guys can be nervous even with girls they've been dating for a length of time in intimate situations. They try to say things, but they stumble on their words and sound foolish. Lots of guys dont wanna take that chance. I dont know, these are all suggestions, but it could be totally different. There are all different reasons, and if they all fail, YELL AT HIM TO OPEN UP!!! lol, j/k, that hardly ever works. Withholding sex until he opens up to you is a harsh but could be very effective

Ask him questions about himself, or questions that only guys know the answers to. You can start it with something like... I've always been curious how guys feel about........, From a guys point of view, what do they think about......... This may allow him to open up to you without it being so personal. But remember that the answers ARE from him personally. You may learn a lot about him that way.

Maybe he is a more interactive guy, so he would appreicate face to face talk. If not tell him how you feel.
