Alcohol gets you a lashing under Islam, LSD is proscribed in America, tobacco kills you, but they don't say when. In England we have restricted alcohol intake in public regulations that could baffle foreigners. And lots of other funny laws as well. Power brokers (doctors are the agents) can dispense poweful pharmeceuticals with long term effects, but the short term chemicals are barred. Is this a political power thing?

No it's a ,,the banned ones can seriously f**k you up in much quicker time than the not banned ones' agrument.

Of course everything is relative but in order for the banning of the various chemicals out there to stand up to a sound argument they would have to run something like a clinical trial testing the long term use of prescribed drugs versus the long term use of proscribed drugs - can't really see them doing that can you - much easier on their (the 'banners') part to just say it's illegal, saves them time, money and awkard questions they can't answer

um... hmmm. well, i think illegal substances are illegal in the u.s. mainly because of health issues they can cause. really though, it probably comes down to money. if the u.s. could tax the trade and sale of drugs, it would probably be legal. yeah, i really don't know about other countries and their laws....
