I would like to send out a mailing to small businesses to promote my personal assistant business, but do not know how to go about obtaining a listing of the small businesses in my area.

Go to your local library and check out the Dun Bradstreet listings for your area. This will give you up to date info on all size business.

I assume you could contact the better business burro or if you know what type of business you want to promote to you can break out the yellow pages

check your local yellow pages. Or go to your city hall and talk to them they should be able to help you with names and or addressess.
