Not everyone loves democracy best. I would much prefer consensus.
But, if we're sticking with democracy, I would prefer there be more direct democracy than we currently have.
I think it would be interesting to see what would happen if, when we filed taxes we had the option of specifying what percent of our money went to what.
What stuff do people really not want to pay for? Where, really, do they want their money to go?
I read some really interesting stuff about democracy and how the one-(hu)man/one-vote style actually does a worse job of representing the will of the people than other systems, such as multiple tallies you can cast-- you can either spread out your "votes" or give them all to one person.
The book I read about this in was called A Mathematician Reads the Newspaper.
There's so much about my country (US) that is anti-democratic (things people want don't happen, things people don't want do), that something that at least resembled democracy would be an improvement. Right now, money rules, and those who can't afford to buy their own Congresspersons are left out in the cold. We're losing our right to vote to corrupt election officials and computers programmed to vote instead of recording votes cast.
Not really sure right now whether we can take it back or not. Neither of the main political parties gives a flying &%*$ about what is good for the country or citizens -- they're all bought and paid for, and keep selling us down the river.
To be really honest, though, I must confess that I am, at heart, an anarchist, and believe that some day we won't have government, the way we now understand it. It was always a mistake to concentrate that much power.

Democracy -- of the people, by the people, for the people.
But I'm not sure it really exists anywhere in the world!
In Belgium where I live, voting is mandatory. You HAVE to go to the polls and vote (although some people deliberately spoil their ballot). If you don't, you can be fined! That has never seemed very "democratic" to me.
In the United States, where I was born and still vote (in federal elections since 1980 when the Americans Abroad Voters' Act was passed), something like 35 percent of all registered voters voted in the last presidential election. So the president was elected by about 18 percent of the total voting population! I find that shocking that so few people are willing to make the time and effort to participate.
Did all those people now complaining about what does or doesn't happen vote? I don't think so.
I would also like to see more than two major political parties in the U.S. (I know that you can have conservative Democrats and liberal Republicans, something that continues to confound many of the Europeans I've met!) It'd be nice to see a strong Green (ecological) Party, for example.

Before FDR, it was well-accepted that the standard form of government of a free nation was a Republic. The reason so many people love "democracy" today is because the ensuing government has shoved it down our throats as somehow patriotic, when it is nothing of the kind. Democracy is the Rule of Mob. A Republic is Rule of Law.

Constitutional monarchies are continuously good. i love the conception of a basically king ruling over an elected authorities. i imagine communism will actually artwork after we've nutrients replicators and countless power, fantastically a lot Earth in startrek is the actually party of communism that works, and its fictional and set 400yrs in the destiny. And communism kinda sucks, communist supporters imagine in the journey that they maintain retaining its outstanding we are able to unexpectedly trust them, after we actually ought to seem at N.Korea for a way undesirable an economic equipment and nutrients shortage can damage a inhabitants, and China supplies us a lesson in only how undesirable human rights in a communist regime can get. yet that would not recommend we could continuously "change" them or ourselves or "desire" they are going to do more effective.
