I am a native New Yorker born and raised, now living in Orlando, FL.
I was on the X8 Xpress bus from Staten Island that morning, the bus took its normal route through the battery tunnel and had already reached water street near the Staten Island Ferry Terminal when the 1st plane hit. I heard the explosion and jumped out of my seat from the noise, put my book down and looked around but could not see anything strange around me so I brushed it off. I got off the directly infront of my office entrance and took the elevetor up to my floor where the receptionist greeted me with a good morning and a did you hear that a plane hit the World Trade Center. Really ??? was my response and I walked away from her, but her statement nagged at me and then as I walked over to my office I could see that there was paper flying all over the place outside the office windows, but I still had not seen the damage until I turned the TV on in the conference room, that's when my world changed. Everything seemed to happen so fast, I watched helplessly as the second airplane flew over our building and hit the second Tower, ducking under the conference room table and then we evacuated our building. I walked to the Staten Island Ferry with my sister (we worked for the same company) and other co-workers. When we arrived at the ferry terimal and began to board the 1st Tower Collapsed. The ground around us started to shake and we could see people in battery park start running away but we didn't know what was going on because we could not see the surrounding buildings, suddenly we were engulfed in smoke and debrese from the 1st collapse. Many people on the ferry were crying, holding life vests, no one knew the towers had collapsed. At this point my cell phone rings and my mother was screaming and crying on the other side of the line I could not understand her, my brother who was home with her took the phone away from her and said "Where are you, we need to know where you are" my response "I am on the Staten Island Ferry, we are moving but we can not see the river or anything around us, something exploded we are surrounded by smoke, what is going on" He said, "The World Trade Center Collapsed, the buildings are gone, they are just gone" . . . . . I didn't want to share that news with my already shaken up co-workers and friends and definately not with my sister who had seen the 2nd plane hit from outside, but according to them my face turned pale white and I looked as if I was about to pass out. I remember sitting down and holding my face in my hands in disbelief that this could happen, that those building could just be gone. I finally told everyone around me to sit down and gave them the news the the Trade Center had collapsed, we all just sat in silence hodling each others hands, some of us crying others just too shocked to react to the news. Even after getting home and seeing the collapse on TV I had no reaction other than disbelief. It took me 3 full days to get over the shock and actually cry. It's not something that I will ever forget.

I plan to wear black with a touch of yellow. I think everyone will know why.........
My family and I were in Germany and we saw the news after school - I called my parents in the States and they turned on the news and saw it for the first time! I will never forget the helpless feeling I had when I watched the second tower fall.

Of course we all do. I was celebrating my 1 month wedding anniversary (cheesy, I know) We ended up sitting in our best friends livingroom with all of our friends, most of us crying.
