Z cars is before my time sorry.
The Bill was pretty good.
My dad used to love the Sweeney and The Professionals!!! Bodie and Doyle were like the British Starksy and Hutch! With equally dodgy 70s fashion sense!!!

I well remember Z-cars, with Charlie Barlow etc. And do you remember the police series that had Johnny Briggs as the assistant Scotland Yard dick - was it M-Squad or Dial M for Murder? Something like that! Maybe it was Lee Marvin in Dial M for Murder. Highway Patrol with Brodrick Crawford was a US one also.

Yes! Brian Blessed was the desk sergeant. There wasn't any good British police series really.

Z cars with it's famous signature tune- da da da,dada da da da- was groundbreaking in it's realistic treatment of police work and real life criminal elements.Softly Softly was the follow up both I believe written by Troy Kennedy Martin.For sheer escapism,The Sweeney took some beating.

Z - cars was beofer my time, I loved The Bill, but my favorite of all time was Dempsey and Matpeace (Sp?) I thought they were super cool, i think they were the reason i wanted to be a police officer when I was a little girl (Sad i know!) I also liked the thin blue line, brilliant piece of comedy and the fat detective reminded me a lot of one of my superior officers!!!!!

When i was younger i loved Chips or Cagney and Lacey. As i got old i fell for The Detectives - Police series Jasper Carrott style.

I remember it but barely, being a youngster at the time , the main thing I can remember is the theme tune and I used to sing it to my parents before I went to bed !........... how strange I was ! At the moment though The Bill has to be my fave, I've watched it from day one Reg is a classic.!
