(intellectuals could also be the “intellectual elite”, depending on your views)

I'll take a guess: It's either (a) the fact that an intellectual makes them feel somehow inferior in intelligence and/or wisdom, or (b) the attitude projected by the intellectual of "Hey, aren't I just the greatest thing going because I know so much." The intellectual elite are notorious for being effite snobs, so the second guess would definitely apply there.

Some intellectuals have such a high esteem of themselves that they are very difficult to relate with. There is no dicussion, they know it all. Or they talk so far above your mentally, there is no discussion.Of course, some mentality is so low, they are not capable of a good mental discussion. As to your question, this does not answer it, does it. Seeing the Q&A on here in some areas, I would say that the person does not prefer a mental discussion.

Sometimes people don't like intellectuals because their theories are impractical. At other times everything looks just fine on paper but when the theory is put to practice it simply doesn't work. Some small mistake or oversight can discredit an entire theory.

Someone who says they hate intellectuals may be insecure (feels dumb and out of touch).
Or, they are brilliant and visionary and "hate" the way intellectuals cling to ideas (the way a golddigger clings to labels). They "hate" the way stereotypical intellectuals are unable to partake of relevant aspects of life: hollywood movies, clive barker novels, disneyland, hip hop music. And, how intellectuals seem to live as if they are putting on show.

perhaps they do not like the arrogance--the superiority--the lack of faith in concepts that can not be proven. They may also dislike them because of their own insecurities, low self-esteem, etc. Sometimes intellectuals act as though they cannot learn from other "non-intellecual" people and appear very snobbish! Sometimes intellectual people appear to lack common sense and can not relate to others.

I think they dislike the arrogance and disdain that intellectuals often exude. True intellectuals are not arrogant or superior acting, but pseudo-intellectuals are all about obnoxious. I think it's the psudo intellectuals that we all like to avoid.

I think what they really hate is people with a superiority complex. It's not that they're intelligent, or highly educated, or anything like that-- it's the attitude that some of those people take that people with less book smarts aren't as good as they are.

usually it bcuz they feel inferior to them for lack of knowledge. others dislike intellectuals simply bcuz they have the knowledge, but no applicable knoweldge to back it up. it's like having all the theories in the world at your control yet you have no experience or proof to back them up. so essentially you're just rattling off figures and numbers a theories in order to confuse someone.

People are not fond of intellectuals because they are usually educated beyond common sense.

I would say that they hate people who act like they are smarter than everyone else, and too good to associate with said others.
