We are organising an Autumn Fete at our local primary school. We have the usual face painting and cake stalls etc, but we need new ideas. Cheap to set up and run is a must as we are a registered charity PTA. thanks.

ask the parents what they are willing to donate. A book stall with undamaged cds etc should sell.if not at least it is goods which can be dispensed of fairly quickly.

perhaps get the kids to make some decent art/craft , e.g decorating frames or plates.what parent will be able to stop themselves from buying the produce,if there is a banner stating that it was childmade.

alternatively see which parents are willing to make something, such as barbie clothes, pegbags etc ,which don't need much materials ,but a bit of time volunteered.

winter won't be long off, maybe some elderly or other can be involved in making some mittens or scarves. include wool on a list of requisites to parents.

do you have a raffle, i know they can be painful, but by having the devine prize on show, will get many children grabbing parents arms for a chance to win. have smaller proizes availbale too.

our school once put together a recipe book ,with parents and children's favourite recipes. it was printed and photocopied at minimal cost ,but i still have it. perhaps with the emphasis on healthy food , you can cash in , by putting realistic lunchbox ideas into it,with some inspiration from the kids. parents should also be able to place and advert in ,at a minimal fee. i realise that maybe this can't be done on time or at a fete, but advertising it ahead ,or asking which parents would be interested in the name of fund raising to pay for one ,will give you an idea ,if it is worthwhile.

by now i have used up a bit of your budget.

good luck with a great cause.

Heres one i did a few years ago.
Make a real life fruit machine.
on a table top build a slot machine front, with 3 holes covered in fabric which allows a hand to go through. and a pull lever
Behind the table have 3 people with an assortment of the same fruit and have a ball making slot machine noises as a child puts coin in to operate it. as the 'spin' comes to an end, the 3 hands poke through the holes holding a fruit, at random, devise a payout table etc for wins, obviously 'wins' have to be made but can be the fruit on the win line . use your imagination to adapt as needed. Dont do what we did tho and eat the fruit, one, youll be sick and two youll run out of combinations. Any money collected can be donated to the school. See if you can get the fruit stalls at the local markets and supermarkets to donate fresh fruit.
Hope you have a good time, the kids will love it.

At my fete, someone went to the local chicken farm and bought loads of fluffy chicks (saving them from the chop)
Next this person used harmless food coloring and dyed the chicks pink or blue, tied a ribbon around their necks, and sold them like that.
The went down a hit.
If you're very ethnically inclined this might not be a good idea though, as you'll forever worry if everyone will take good care of their chickens.

Here's a Free Fund Raising Program

http://www.clubshop.com/cgi-bin/rd/10,,refid=15/affiliates.xml

Your organization refers people to the ClubShop Online Mall, these people earn cash back rebates for purchases made in the Mall & we donate a percentage of each purchase back to your organization.

Well if it is a primary school, what about a stall where the boys have to pay NOT to be kissed! (You would need some really bright red lipstick!)
:-)

line all the teachers up and let the kids pay to throw wet sponges at them! Nearly every kid will hate at least 1 teacher enough to nag mum and dad to get some money to do it!

go and buy loads of things from charity shops (but make sure they're in good condition)...that way you're helping charity and getting lots of cheap things to make a profit on!

ask for the parents to offer something,to promise like:3 hours light gardening,a meal for 2,a haircut,if someone has a house by the sea,one weekend for 2 there.then you sell them and call it .promises sale.
you can also auction them.
