To me it sounds like you pulled a muscle, that would explain the sore to the touch. Try a couple of Advil and wait a few days ...book an appointment with your doctor anyways for a health checkup and some advise to stop smoking!

Just go to the Doctor! Or go to the ER if you are scared the doctor is going to yell at you. I, personally, would rather have a doctor yell at me for not taking care of myself than put my family and friends through the pain of losing me because I refused to seek help!

Go now. This could prove to be something serious. Worry about smoking later ... otherwise it could be that there is no later.
Do it now!
Put that down, and phone the doctor, right away.

i used to work in a place where women had a job pushing brake cables into a conduit [seriously]. eg they held the conduit with one hand and pushed the cable with the other from right to left or reverse, which sometimes caused them a hernia type injury in the chest [sternum]. hope that's helpful, check with your doctor, it might not be as bad as you think!

Go and see your doctor. It might be costal chondritis, which is inflammation of the cartilage around the sternum. It causes a lot of heart attack "false alarms".

Definitely go to your doctor. They are not there to judge you. If you feel your own doctor will make you feel uncomfortable, see another but, I would honestly go very soon.
Your health must come first.

truthfully being a nursing student my perfect suggestion is wake your mothers and dads up and tell them. attempt and take a comfortable soreness reliever. And as properly as attempt and drink. I first think of of a kidney stone, if the soreness travels down on your pelvic area this could be the case, the soreness originating on your decrease back suddenly is a symptom of a kidney stone.
